Students received the Pfizer vaccine, approved by the CDC for individuals 16 and older.
(New Orleans 鈥� April 23, 2021) 鈥� More than 25 Warren Easton High School students received the COVID-19 vaccine, as part of 天博体育 Public Schools' (天博体育-PS) Mobile Vaccine Program, this morning.
天博体育-PS is proud to have partnered with DePaul Community Health Centers (DCHC) to provide access to the Pfizer vaccine to students 16 and older, with parental consent.
"This new milestone, just a little over a year from when 天博体育-PS closed schools due to the coronavirus, is a bright step in helping return our students to the classroom with their teachers full-time," said 天博体育-PS Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. "The more our school community gets vaccinated, and the community in general, the closer we'll all be to getting our school life back to normal. Ideally, we'd like to have all students return to in-person learning by the fall."
天博体育-PS, in partnership with DCHC, kicked off its mobile vaccine program, earlier this week. The mobile vaccination opportunity has been offered to all high schools interested in providing the service on their campuses. We encourage families to reach out to their school's leadership to see if they're offering the vaccine through the 天博体育-PS mobile vaccination program or through other means.
"It was truly heartwarming to see parents accompanying their teenagers who received COVID-19 vaccinations today at Warren Easton High School. Several of the students mentioned the importance of being vaccinated to increase safety for them and their loved ones, especially older relatives. This population represents an excellent opportunity to increase our state's vaccination rate. I trust that our partnership with 天博体育 Public Schools will inspire additional persons in our community to receive vaccinations," said Dr. Michael Griffin, President and CEO of DePaul Community Health Centers.
